Euro Leagues 2007-2008 Preview
The European soccer leagues that we all know and love have been kicking off, and continue to kick-off over the next two weeks. Here are my predictions that will probably be all wrong 9 months from now.
Spain - La Liga, for me, is the best competition in the world. The league has the best players, the deepest teams from top to bottom, and an all around high quality. That said, Real Madrid and Barcelona always dominate because they have so much money, but last season proved it wasn't easy for them, as Sevilla dominated most of the season, only to trip up at the end. I think Barcelona will win the league, but it should be down to the wire again because Madrid has some great new players despite losing their mastermind coach. I think Athletico Madrid and Sevilla will fight for top spots too.
France - Ligue 1 started 2 weeks ago. Lyon has won the championship easily for 6 SEASONS IN A ROW. The smart thing would be to predict another championship for them. However, they've lost a lot of players, they're facing a lot of injuries, and are running thinner than previous seasons. I'm not going to say they won't get their 7th title in a row, but I will say they won't wrap it up with 10 games left to play like they did last season. Marseille and Bordeaux will push them all the way to the end.
Italy - Serie A should will be interesting again. With last year's penalties (Milan had 15 points deducted) and the relegation of Juventus, Inter Milan had the title wrapped up by Christmas. All the Italian teams have spent a load of money so competition and quality should be intense this year. I'm really looking forward to watching this league.
England - The English Premier League will be won by Manchester United again. The strongest team has been made stronger, while teams like Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have spent a lot of money for minimal improvements. The season started last weekend, and despite Manchester's slip-up at home, they're still going to pound everyone.
Germany - A special guest writer's thoughts on the Bundesliga will be posted tomorrow.
