Fun times at the FA Cup
The FA Cup in England has suddenly become interesting. Over the weekend, the big favorites all lost to lower ranked sides. For the first time since 1996, none of the remaining 4 teams are not part of the "big 4" (Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea). For the first time since 1908, there will be only one team from England's top division among the final 4.
Chelsea, the defending champs, lost to Barnsley 1-0. Barnsley is currently 19th out of 24 teams in the second division of England. You'd think they be done with giant killing after they beat Liverpool a few weeks ago. Watch the video all the way through to see a memorable pitch invasion.
The second big upset was Portsmouth beating Manchester United, in Manchester. It's not completely surprising since Portsmouth are kinda of good this season. The highlights for this one are nuts. You gotta ask how Portsmouth escaped so many times. Man U also loses both their goalkeepers, and a field player goes into goal. Definitely watch these highlights too.
Cardiff (from Wales) beat Premier League side Middlesbrough for another upset. The video for this one is crappy, but watching the underdog pull it out is fun.
The 4th quarter final was between two lower division sides, Bristol (1st place in second division) and West Brom Albion (4th place in second division). The WBA Baggies beat the Rovers 5-1. No video for this one, yet.
This is very exciting stuff. It's like the Final Four of the NCAA basketball tournament having teams ranked 9th, 24th, 34th, and 39th (out of 44).
