I was in San Francisco last weekend to see Phil's new place and to take in a Smashing Pumpkins concert. Tridi and I made the drive up the I-5 from Pasadena in about 5 hours. We confirmed that 2003 Acura RSX will indeed do triple digits.
Phil lives in an amazing part of San Francisco, right on the Russian Hill, off Hyde St. The spot is so amazing, you get your own wake-up service thanks to the army of Trolleys that drive by every morning at 6:00 AM. They will all make sure to ring their bell right in front of the window you sleep next to. As far as big cities go, I've always enjoyed SF. It's urban living without feeling too urban. There's a nice sense of community among everyone there. That feel generates a lot of civic pride. I also appreciate how easy it is to get around.
The best part about Phil's apartment is the roof. From up there, you can get a comfortable view of Fisherman's Wharf and the Bay. If you're not on the roof, there are a number of things you can do. Tridi and I made the hike from Phil's place to Haight-Ashbury to look for drugged out hippies, but there were surprisingly few when we got there. Phil took us to his favorite Crepe place and Nat introduced us to the French quarter of SF. We also went to the top of Twin Peaks to get a cool view of the city as fog rolled in. A good time was had, and I'll talk about the concert tomorrow.
P.S. Phil has some great pictures here. His Pumpkin pics are better than mine.
