Recent Discoveries

Permalink 08/13/08 09:38, by jamesey, Categories: Happenings , Tags: congo, discovery, gorilla, peru, waterfall

These two news items really grabbed my attention. They are similar to the discovery of the orange indian tribe that was discovered in Brasil back in May.

Gorillas
have been on the endangered species list, but weeks ago, a huge settlement of gorillas was discovered, that nearly doubled the population of gorillas thought to exist. This totally blows me away. First I can't believe there is a "city" of about 50,000 gorillas. I'm no gorilla expert, but whenever I watch animal shows on TV, the gorillas travel in groups of about 10 and are spread out all over the place. Secondly, I'm amazed that on one had discovered this secret spot before. People really do explore every corner of the globe and somehow this secret gorilla spot was overlooked. I know this is in the wild Congo, but not even poachers knew about the spot.

The other recent discovery is now the third highest waterfall in the world. Technically it was known by tribes in Peru but no explorer or trailblazer had ever found their way to it. It's amazing that as much as the world has been uncovered, there are still big secrets that the "civilized" world hasn't uncovered yet.
