Radio Presets: from 4 to 2

Permalink 02/20/09 08:50, by jamesey, Categories: Happenings , Tags: commute, los angeles, radio

As of one month ago, I had 6 buttons to preset to my car radio. I only used 4:

KCRW (89.9)
FM Talk (97.1)
Indie (103.1)
KROQ (106.7)

Indie was taken off air about a month ago and replaced by Ranchero. Thank goodness because Los Angeles was running short on those . That pretty much killed any good music I could listen to on my drive home.

This week FM Talk has been taken off the air, so now the radio I listen to in my morning drive (Adam Carolla show) is gone. It will be replaced by Top 40 like Rhiana or Spin Doctors because the L.A. radio audience has proven to be idiots.

I now have two presets, KCRW and KROQ. I rarely put on KROQ, usually just scanning it to see if a Pumpkins song is playing, or if it's a 90's weekend. KCRW is news during my morning and afternoon drive. Not bad but a little monotonous after a while. My commuting has just become a bit more uncomfortable.

Anyone have recommendations for my pre-sets? I have a feeling I'm gonna go out of my mind. Also, I absolutely refuse to pay for satellite radio.

First off, listen to KPCC and support your local NPR stations Judas. Try 91.5 KUSC (classical) or 93.1 Jack if you want a college kid's iPod on shuffle with a leaning towards classic rock.

The Petros and Money Show on 570 AM is always funny, but that is sports talk.

Get an iPod and try podcasts or music you like. Or just start listening to hip hop and AC40. Good luck!
