Live Music - Everest & The Parsons Redheads

Last night I ventured out to The Echo to see a couple of bands I've liked for a while. I'd heard both on the radio a few times and enjoyed their myspace songs. I was expecting a typical night of good music. Instead I got a performance that I only see around here once a year.

I got to The Echo just in time to see the Parsons Redheads take the stage. They're a nine member band with folksy melodies and a psychedelic vibe. After a few minutes of their set, I was really into them and loving their jams. The sound was very organic easy to enjoy. The jaded L.A. crowd was bopping up and down and letting the band know how much they were liked.

After a small break, Everest took the stage. They have five members including one of the most talented bassists I've ever seen. The lead singer had a great voice with an added echo effect for most songs that gave their sound a shoegaze feel. Everest were incredible and the packed Echo loved every minute of it. I could say they're like a mix of Remy Zero and Interpol but that'd be a disservice to Everest. They have their own sound and a good range of songs. They are definitely among the top 3 bands I've ever seen on a whim at a small club. Their "hit" song, Rebels in the Roses, got everyone boppin. Once again, the jaded LA crowd showed the band their love, and begged for an encore. The band was a little surprised by this and let loose a great ending track full of great jams and rockin out.
