Thanksgiving in Dallas

Permalink 11/30/09 20:39, by jamesey, Categories: Happenings

I was in Dallas for Thanksgiving. My dad's side of the family setup base at my cousin Alison's house and we had a packed weekend of family and Dallas fun.We arrived on Wednesday night and were greeted by BBQ and my Aunt Jamie's cheesey potatos. I had a lot of food that night after not really eating all day.

On Thanskgiving day, we took part in the Dallas Turkey Trot. The 5k walk goes through the heart of the city and provides some good exercise before gorging on turkey. This year, a record 37000 people took part.

This is the start of the trot. I talked the talk, but could I trot the trot?

This is downtown. There were a lot of people. I did trot the trot.

This was the best dog I saw on the walk. It was huge and it was wearing a human sweater.

When we got back from the trot, Jillian entertained everyone. She was the star of the weekend, but my broken camera took mostly blurry pictures of her. This one turned out good, and cute. She likes elephants, just like me. What a good little Republican!

Jason, Jonathan and I actually missed Thanksgiving dinner because went to the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. The place is enormous and amazing. I was blown away by the technolgy, and architecutre. I doubt there is a finer stadium in the world. I only got this one good picture since my camera died on the way in. The 60 yard plasma TV screen in the stadium was also amazing. Most of us in the upper deck watched that more than the action on the field.

We were treated to some Southern hospitality on the way into the stadium. A group of Cowboy and Raider fans demanded we have some of their BBQ, beer, and fixin's. The group of 10 purposely brought enough food for 40 people to spread the wealth on Thanksgiving. This was Southern Hospitality at its finest. I got this one picture of Jason with the group.

My Black Friday consisted of Twilight New Moon, food comas, Monopoly, Mojitos, beer, Maid Rite, and Ninety-Nine.

I was last place in Monopoly with $51. My strategy of hard cheating combined with extreme rent relief for my opponents was a failure. I was also out pretty early at Ninety-Nine. Our family has raised the stakes and plays with $5.00 now.

New Moon was a pretty bad movie, but I saw enough to declare myself as part of Team Jacob (the Warewolf.) Vampires are whiny. Warewolves get ro runaround the woods in cutoff denim shorts and no shirts with their bros all day. It's no contest.

Saturday consisted of a lot of lounging. I caught up on the TV show V thanks to Hulu, and I fixed Ali's computer issues. We went to a Dallas x Tampa hockey game for which we got some great box seats behind one of the goals. Dallas won 4-3 in overtime sending the fans home happy.

Here's proof I was at a hockey game.

Here's proof we had box seats.
