I watched 4 seasons of Battletar Galactica in 10 days
You know when everyone tells you that you'd enjoy something, and it gets hyped up so much you end up not wanting to see what all the fuss is about? That's what happened to me with Battlestar Galactica. The 2004 remake (or re-imagining as the creators call it) of the late 70's series should have been something I was into from the first day it was released. Instead I've waited 4 years later, until the series end to watch all 60-something episodes, plus 2 mini-series specials.
Torchwood Series 2 - Review
Last Friday (I'm two weeks ahead of BBC America) was the season finale of Torchwood. Season 1 was unique and intriguing. It left me curious for more. The show is progressive and even though it's a supernatural sci-fi, it's full of drama. The drama is so well done that I can accept when the sci-fi elements take a back seat. The same can be said for Doctor Who, and I guess that's why I enjoy these series so much.
Series 2 of Torchwood starts and ends with a bang. In the middle were many riveting episodes where the unexpected happens and the show is truly altered. Some of the episodes were very straight forward, like when Gwen is suddenly pregnant with an alien baby on her wedding day. Some were devilish, like the one with the traveling freak show master starts stealing souls. Somehow in the middle a main character, Owen, becomes a dead man who lives forever and he clashes with the lead character, Captain Jack, who is a living man who lives forever. All the while, they're tracking down aliens, keeping secrets, and having relationships. There were hardly ever any moments where I thought the characters were being stupid and irrational, a common trait of most sci-fi.
Definitely catch some reruns of Torchwood on BBCAmerica, or HDNet. If you're impatient, you can check here. Season 1 was great and season 2 is better. I can't wait for season 3 to start in 10 months, because season 2's ending was so epic.
Thank you BBC!
Is it a coincidence that the BBC is starting season 4 (ok, really season 31) of Doctor Who on my birthday? I think not. Thanks BBC!!
