Welcome to our new soccer overlord, David Beckham
It looks like the L.A. Galaxy have somehow enticed the most recognizable athlete in the world to come play in L.A. Some say he wants to kick back and play in a "euro-retirement" league, and some say $250,000,000 for 5 years is the reason. Whatever David Beckham's decision was based on, I'm glad to have him on my team.
Just six months ago Becks (as I and his closest English pals like to call him) was England's captain in the World Cup. He's been getting time at Real Madrid despite not fitting in their system. At 31, he's still a really good player and once he plays in MLS he'll automatically be the best passer in the league. Don't forget that despite his pretty boy metro image he's a fighter. He will put in a hard tackle and work to get up and down the field. I'm not saying he'll always win his tackles, but he will fight which is one characteristic people often overlook when they talk about him.
I'm excited. Posh Spice can sit next to me at the matches and we'll get to see how a world class player handles MLS. There will be a buzz at his matches and the exposure for the team and the league will be great. At work today, 7 different co-workers have asked me about details.
I'm a little fearful of a raise in ticket & parking prices, and the teeny boppers that will show up to scream for him. Hopefully the Galaxy front office will find a way to respect their fans in this regard.

first it was reported as 5 years at $250M he was getting paid, now i've seen it as $250M for five years of contract and commercial opportunities.
The galaxy arent actually writing him a check of $50M a year right?
Ronaldo will probably join Red Bull New York next week. The same rumors are circulating around him.
Or was it some other nerd?
lets just hope this doesnt become
like the luis hernandez fiasco.
